SPOILERS FOR ASSASSIN’S CREED VALHALLA AHEADBasim is not only a popular Assassin’s Creed Valhalla character, but he has wormed his way into the hearts of many fans and cemented himself as one of its most popular characters overall. Part of it is, no doubt, how he is a reincarnation of the Isu Loki, and that gives AC Rift a lot of things to explore. By all accounts, AC Rift is based in Baghdad and will likely focus on Basim’s past, perhaps showing how Loki overtook Basim’s mind. A lot of things happen to Basim before Valhalla.

Assassin’s Creed Rift: Basim’s Life

Basim was born in the Abbasid Caliphate, and his father played a big role in the Great Mosque of Samarra. Unfortunately, someone else took credit for his work on the mosque, and Basim’s father died in poverty. Basim would grow up in Baghdad, where he often visited the House of Wisdom. This building would play a big role in Basim’s life, from the available knowledge to meeting al-Khwarizmi. Presumably, this place likely played a role in Basim and Loki’s convergence of personalities too.

Basim would eventually join the Hidden Ones and become a Master Assassin, like so many before and after him. It’s implied that Loki’s consciousness didn’t begin to manifest in Basim until this time, and those who knew Basim described fits of mania where he struggled against the Isu Loki. By the time Assassin’s Creed Valhalla takes place, Basim’s original consciousness was entirely snuffed out by Loki. This is presumably where Assassin’s Creed Rift would take place, either during Basim’s rise through the ranks up until or after Basim’s change. Basim/Loki would then travel, under guise of Hidden One activities, to search for other Sages.

Mentor Rayhan would eventually pair Hytham with Basim, where they would eventually face a faction of the Order of the Ancients called Snake-Eaters. They had taken control of Constantinople, and decimated the Hidden Ones during this conflict. However, Basim would receive aid from other Hidden Ones and drive the Snake-Eaters out.

Eventually, Basim would learn of a Norseman with a peculiar mark on the neck, an oddity of all Norse Isu, and Basim would seek to befriend the man everyone knows as Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s Sigurd Styrbjornsson. The rest isn’t exactly history, though, as Basim survives the events of Valhalla and makes his appearance in the modern-day, dedicated to finding his children and being reunited with his lover.

Assassin’s Creed Rift is reportedly in development.
