RELATED: PS5 Games That Can Be Run At 4K & 60 FPS

As fun and exciting as Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla may be for many players, no game is perfect. Sometimes, a game needs a little something extra to be to a player’s personal taste, and that’s where the modding community comes in. Whether it by a visual upgrade, a change in gameplay, or inserting a completely different franchise into the game, modding can do a lot for players. That’s the topic of today’s list as we count down the best Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla mods. All listed Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla mods can be found on Nexus Mods.

Updated on September 4th, 2021 by Josh Davison: Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla is a novel take at the Assassin’s Creed formula that seeks to take this universe and its continuity back to the days of Viking explorers and warring clans. Everything still ties back to the overall story of Assassins, Templars, and the Precursor Isu of the Assassin’s Creed canon. This new location locale and its tweaks to the formula have inspired countless modders to add their own spin on the game by improving what they like and minimizing what they don’t. There are plenty of interesting Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla mods to check out, all of which have been crafted by skilled and dedicated modders.

13 Tattoos And More Touches Up The Tattoos From The Game

The Tattoos and More Mod is a work-in-progress by Nexus Mod user QuiLeeR. It requires the Forger Patch Manager version 2.10. It seems to have higher aspirations for what it’s aiming to do beyond what it is currently contained in the mod, but, as of right now, has an assortment of six tattoos that all seem to be inspired in some way by the Vikings television series.

Its current assortment of tattoos are Hjarta, the Norse Emblem, Sigrdrifumal, Midgar, the Mjolnir Sign, and the Hel Sign. Each of these tattoos does bring something a little new to the table, and they just look plain cool.

12 Eivor Enhanced Muscles Makes The Hero A Jacked Viking Warrior

This is another more aesthetic-minded mod. The Eivor Enhananced Muscles mod by skylightglare, Makacha, and ilikedetectives makes Eivor, both the male and female versions, and crank up the detailing and prominence of their muscles. Eivor was already a hulking warrior in Valhalla, but this mod makes them into truly jacked Viking warrior heroes. Like the prior mod, this one requires the Forger Patch Manager to function properly in the game.

While Assassin’s Creed games sometimes aim for realism (to a degree), it’s undeniable that there is an appeal to making one’s Viking hero into a truly shredded figure capable of bench-pressing a longboat or two. There do seem to be some frequent glitches with this particular mod, so there is a troubleshooting guide on the mod page.

11 Remove Startup Logos Boots The Game Up Quicker

This is a fairly common mod produced for PC games, and it’s a fairly understandable one. When one boots up a game, they’re often looking to get into that game as soon as possible without having to wait for various cinematics announcing the companies involved with the game and the particular port.

The Remove Startup Logos mod does what it says in the name. It cuts out roughy 90 seconds of logo cinematics and replaces them with three seconds of black screen so that the player can get into Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla all the more quickly. This particular mod comes from Nexus user Dolby1021.

10 Level 400 Let’s The Player Become A Truly Powerful Viking Warrior

Sometimes, you want to be at the max level without having to do all the hours and hours of grinding gameplay to get to that point. Some people may not approve of that method, but it’s your time so it’s yours to do with as you please. We’re not here to judge you.

That’s where the Level 400 mod comes in. It’s a save file for Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla that gives you a save file at Level 400. Technically the max level is 409, but Level 400 gives Eivor enough skill points to fill the entire skill tree. This one comes to us thanks to Nexus Mod user Luke24680.

Update: This mod has been deleted*

9 Replace Assassinations With A Gnome For The Glory Of Gnome

Sometimes, you just want a gnome. Sometimes, you just got to have a gnome. Things other than a gnome will simply not do. That’s a sympathetic feeling that everyone can understand deep down. Thankfully, there is a mod that will allow you to have a gnome even in Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla.

The mod is appropriately called, “Replace Assassinations with a Gnome,” and it comes from Nexus Mod user Fappelsapman. The caveat to this mod is that the description doesn’t quite make it clear what exactly this mod replaces with a gnome. The title implies that it replaces the assassination animations with a fullscreen image of this gnome, but the description makes it seem like the gnome actually replaces the Ubisoft and Nvidia credit screens from boot-up. Either way, this mod is recommendable.

8 Hide This Removes Distracting Visuals From The Player Experience

This mod is more of a tweak to the visuals of the game as opposed to a major alteration to the gameplay or story. Nexus Mod user Tholwin introduced the “Hide This” mod, which removes unused sheaths from Eivor’s back and the masks from other players’ Jomsvikings.

Even when Eivor isn’t using twin weapons or a bow, the sheath for a second weapon and bow are still on Eivor’s back. This is a minor detail, but it can be bothersome to some players. It also removes the facemasks from the Jomsviking recruits that Eivor can gather, which are actually made by other Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla players.

7 Fix Cutscenes Ultrawide Improves The Visual Fidelity

This is a resolution fix for the cutscenes in Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla. The cutscenes weren’t tuned for ultra-widescreen monitors, so modder WT3WD fixed this oversight with the “Fix Cutscenes Ultrawide” mod that alters the cutscenes to fit ultra-widescreen monitors.

This seems like a simple mod, but cutscenes intended to be cinematic experiences not fitting properly on a computer monitor can be off-putting and distracting.

6 Wanderer’s Tale Makes Valhalla A Grimmer And Darker Place

This mod is a graphics re-shade that works to shift the visual tone of Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla to a darker and grittier place. Valhalla tells a violent and grim tale, so it only suits that the visuals of the game better represent that idea. With that in mind, modder Crussong created the Wanderer’s Tale mod.

Crussong says in the description that this re-shade was inspired by the Vikings television series as well as the aesthetics of notoriously grim FromSoftware titles. As you can see from the screenshot, it looks like Crussong did an excellent job of capturing this atmosphere.

5 Outfit’s Workshop Retextures Certain Outfits From The Game

This is a retexturing pack intended to alter some of the weapon and outfit visuals from Nfcintra. This isn’t a large-scale retooling of all outfits; it only targets a few of the specifics.

The mod does a few cool things such as adding rust to the Hidden Blade, retextures the Native American tunic and disguise, and removes the blood from the Einherjar.

4 PureClarity_Reshade Is Another Vivid Reshading Of Valhalla

This is another re-shading mod like the Wanderer’s Tale mod, but this one actually gives the player three choices as to which re-shading mode they would like, each one intended to alter the appearance of the game without hindering performance.

This mod comes to us from user Subject195. It gives an option for a more neutral re-shading, a more cinematic re-shading, and a more saturated res-hading. This is pretty cool on the whole, as many re-shading mods only target a simple aesthetic, but Subject 195 gives a trio of aesthetic choices for players.

3 Heavy Metal Iron Maiden Tattoos Appeals To The Metalhead In All Of Us

Tattoos are a big part of Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, as they allow the player to customize and personalize their Eivor in a manner that was actually practiced among the Vikings.

This mod brings tattoos inspired by Iron Maiden to Eivor, and it comes to us from user Julianovento7. Iron Maiden may still be over a millennium away in the time of Eivor, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t make your Viking Assassin a fan of heavy metal music.

Update: This mod has been taken down by the user, as it has been made unusable after a recent update to the game. Hopefully, it will be fixed and added back to Nexus Mods at a later date.

2 Full Body Tattoo Editor Allows Complete Tattoo Control

Continuing with the tattoo theme, we have the Full Body Tattoo Editor from user Sniper007136.

This mod allows the player to completely edit all tattoo textures on Eivor, replacing either the Hel Sign tattoo or Vegvisir tattoo depending on which version of the mod you use. The player simply adds their own texture into the mod folder to have the tattoo they wish to place on Eivor.

1 Eivor Customizer

Perhaps the most extensive Eivor customization mod for Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, the Eivor Customizer adds a whole new level of personalization with which the player can create their dream Eivor. This mod comes from user Hypermorphic, and the mod requires Forger Patch Manager, also from Hypermorphic.

This mod allows the player complete control of Eivor’s appearance, including hairstyles, hair color, body shape, body proportions, skin tone, head-to-body ratio, facial presets, and many more customizable options. This is an incredibly thorough mod and easily earns a spot on this list.
