Speaking to GameSpot, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla narrative director Darby McDevitt revealed that the game has the development team has done the game’s story “in a very unique way and I think it will be one of the stand-out aspects of the game.” McDevitt also said that the game will feature “a unique story structure for Assassin’s Creed fans” and that “I would even dare say it’s quite unique for any game.” The game’s story is different in how it’s shown to players and how players enjoy it, said McDevitt.

It’s unclear what the development team is planning for the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla story. The developers have confirmed that the game’s settlement feature will be very important and that major parts of the story will begin and end here. It’s possible that this is an important part of the “unique story structure” that McDevitt is teasing.

It’s also possible that the game’s writers have found a new way to use historical monuments. Creative Director Ashraf Ismail has confirmed that Stonehenge will be featured in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, though Ismail did so in a way that suggests that players won’t just be climbing it for a passing visit. Stonehenge, which was used as a burial ground, could tie into the game’s story much more than fans expect, as could other monuments in the game.

Ubisoft is planning to share more about the game this week. It will be showing Assassin’s Creed Valhalla gameplay at the Xbox Series X gameplay reveal. Fans are expecting to see more information about protagonist Eivor, see more Viking battles, and look at how they can affect the settlement.

There may also be new information about the game’s story at the event. Many fans would like to know more about King Alfred, who seems to be one of the game’s bigger enemies, NPCs that Eivor is friends with, and what other famous figures players may get to talk to in the game. This could also come with a confirmation about the game’s story style as fans get to see something new for the series.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla releases holiday 2020 on PC, PS4, PS5 Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
