The Dawn of Ragnarok expansion pack costs $39.99 and can be accessed at any time. In-game, there are three different ways to start Dawn of Ragnarok depending on Eivor’s level and progress on the current save file. The minimum level to start Dawn of Ragnarok is 340, but there are ways around this depending on each player’s preferences.

Starting a New Game
If this is the first time playing Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, the main menu gives players the option to choose between “Valhalla” or “Dawn of Ragnarok.” Thus, players will be allowed to “Choose [Their] Experience” and can start Dawn of Ragnarok without having to play through Valhalla’s campaign first.
However, starting Dawn of Ragnarok limits players to Svartalfheim. This means gear and weapons will be predetermined to meet the “requirements” to be on equal ground with Dawn of Ragnarok’s difficulty. Anything from the Valhalla experience will not be carried over if players choose to start Dawn of Ragnarok before Valhalla.
It should be noted that this predetermined character cannot be transferred into the Valhalla experience. The character used in Dawn of Ragnarok for those that are starting from a new game is only available for the DLC.
If Above or Below Level 340
Players that meet the level requirement for Dawn of Ragnarok can simply load their save file and start working towards the new DLC content. Along with the level requirement, there’s one more thing that needs to be completed before going into Svartalfheim. Players will have a new quest in their log called “Restless Dreams,” which is the final step to playing Dawn of Ragnarok.
Warp to Ravensthorpe and speak to Valka. For this to occur, the Seer’s Hut (Valka’s House) needs to be built. Find and bring the mistletoe Valka needs for the Ritual. Place the mistletoe at the indicated marks around the ritual circle to advance the quest. Interact with the middle of the circle to start Dawn of Ragnarok.
For those that are under level 340, they will have the option to use a Progression Boost. This grants players a special set of Mythical-quality gear and will bring their level to 340, but only for the DLC. Once Eivor returns from Svartalfheim, their level will be back to normal.
Luckily, the “Restless Dreams” quest can be done regardless of the player’s Power Level. However, Ravensthorpe needs to at least be level 3 in order to build the Seer’s Hut, which, again, is the quest required for starting Dawn of Ragnarok. Meaning if the settlement has yet to meet this requirement, then players will have to work some more before they can start “Restless Dreams.”
Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
