Earlier this week, Ubisoft revealed the patch notes for version 1.04 update of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. The latest patch added some notable features such as the option to switch between the performance mode which allowed the game to target 60 FPS or the graphics mode that prioritized resolution at the cost of 30FPS. Patch 1.04 was also supposed to fix some major technical issues that plagued the Xbox Series X version of the game such as screen tearing.

While it added a stable 60 FPS mode on the Xbox Series S version of the game, it unfortunately caused some major issues in the PS5 version, which was better optimized prior to the fix. As reported by some ResetEra members, the FPS in PS5 performance mode is now dropping down to 40, which was much stable before. This has made the fans perplexed as there is no explanation as to why this is happening. Furthermore, the screen tearing issue on the Xbox Series X version hasn’t been permanently fixed. While some players reported that the problem has been fixed for them, others reported that it hasn’t, thereby creating confusion and frustration in the community.
Ubisoft has yet to address this new situation. According to Digital Foundry’s John Linneman, the PS5 users are recommended not to update their game as it seems to affect them the most. As of now, the Xbox Series S version of the game benefits the most from this latest patch. Version 1.4 also supposedly fixes the save file issue that had plagued Assassin’s Creed Valhalla since its launch though players have yet to report on how that has panned out.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla released earlier last month to genuinely positive reception from both fans and critics alike. Famous American Film Director John Carpenter also took time out to praise the game’s massive open world and gameplay, all the while stating that it’s “a return to excellence in the franchise.” However, a multitude of technical issues including janky animations of children NPC’s does hold it back from being a truly phenomenal game at this point in time.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S.
