In a launch streamed from Asus’ homeland of Taiwan (which you can watch here, if you speak Mandarin), the company pulled the wraps off both the ZenFone 7 and the ZenFone 7 Pro.

A lot of what these devices are bringing to the table admittedly leaked online in the weeks leading up to their August launch, but now we have a full picture of the hardware they’re toting and just how aggressively Asus wants to compete in the flagship space.

When does the Asus ZenFone 7 launch?

The ZenFone 7 series showcased at a dedicated live-streamed event on 26 August. Unlike the ZenFone 6, it appears that this year’s phones won’t enjoy quite the same broad rollout, with countries like the US and the UK missing out on the devices altogether.

Asus is still planning a European release, however, coming to select markets from 1 September.

How much does the Asus ZenFone 7 cost?

There are two SKUs of ZenFone 7 – starting at NT$21,990 – and a single build of the ZenFone 7 Pro, costing NT$27,990.

That equates to £569/€634/US$749 for the 7 and approximately £725/€807/US$953 for the 7 Pro, both of which seem like competitive prices for what these phones offer up.

What features does the Asus ZenFone 7 have?

So what does your money get you? Well in terms of the differences, the main takeaways between the 7 are the 7 Pro are that the latter benefits from twice the internal storage (at 256GB), the use of the beefier Snapdragon 865+ chip and OIS (optical image stabilisation) on both its primary and telephoto snappers.

The triple camera arrangement looks like a nice improvement from last year’s dual-sensor system and the ability to record up to 8K video at 30fps is made all the more impressive by that fact that you can do so while using the system as a front-facing camera.
